Bike Riders Raise Money for Food Bank of WMass

HATFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Money raised during a bike ride Sunday was of benefit to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.

250 men and women on bicycles rode between 10 and 100 miles each to raise $70,000 in the fight against hunger here in Western Massachusetts.

Biking for food has been attracting more riders each year to help fill the Food Bank’s warehouse in Hatfield.

“This is my first year,” said Jean Maszeal of Ware. “I love to ride my bike. We’re going to be doing this for Stop & Shop.”

Aileen Hurley of West Springfield said, “This is my first year, we’ve been to other sponsored rides before, this is the first with the Food Bank.”

22News had a strong presence at this Food Bank fundraiser. Storm Team meteorologist Brian Lapis was Master of Ceremonies and Mass Appeal co-host Seth Stutman was among the hundreds of riders out on the road helping combat hunger.
