Hyundai recently released a sketch
of the 2016 Hyundai ix35,
announcing plans of showcasing the vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Car and Driver Brazil has now released a rendering of the same and a few other
details about the project.
The
design will mimic the larger Santa
Fe, and the crossover will get increased legroom at the rear, and could
also sport a 7-speed automatic gearbox, says the report. Engine options will
include the 2-litre and 2.4-litre engines, and a hydrogen-fuel cell powertrain
will also be available in certain markets like Europe.
There
will also be diesel choices, and as for the gearbox, it’s going to be the new
7-speed dual clutch unit that Hyundai developed in-house.
The new
ix35 is “a big step for the Hyundai brand globally,” according to Peter
Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer at Hyundai.
Hyundai’s 7-speed dual clutch
gearbox is expected to make it to the Tucson, while some markets could also get
a hydrogen fuel cell version.
An
arrival in India is unlikely for the ix35 as Hyundai would first want to
make inroads in the SUV segment with the ix25 this year.
