NEW
DELHI: Seeking to regain its lost market share in the mid-sized sedan segment, Hyundai Motor India Ltd
(HMIL) on Wednesday launched an updated version of Verna, priced between Rs 7.74
lakh and Rs 12.19 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The
model, which competes with Honda City and Maruti Ciaz, will be available in
both petrol and diesel options and have ten variants.
"The
world sedan will further strengthen our line up in the sedan segment," Hyundai Motor India
Ltd managing director and CEO B S Seo told reporters here.
Beginning
with a substantial share in the mid-sized sedan segment, Verna had started losing out
to rivals.
While
Honda City sold 7,671 units and Maruti Ciaz 6,005 units in January, Verna clocked only 1,620
units.
For the
April-January period this fiscal, Honda City sold 61,102 units, while Maruti
Ciaz, which was launched in October last year, sold 23,490 units till January.
On the
other hand, during the April-January period, Verna had sold
25,216 units.
