Hyundai Puts a Price on The 2013 Elantra Coupe

By Logan Utsman on Sunday, June 17th, 2012

The trifecta of Elantra is complete. Joining the 2012 North American Car of The Year – the four door sedan – and the upcoming GT hatchback will soon be the two door Coupe. With its sights set directly on the Honda Civic Coupe, the two door Hyundai will be landing at U.S. dealerships by the end of June. When it does, the car should hold everything that made the four door an award winner but with the added charm and sporty feel that can only come from the removal of two doors. Just like its other siblings, the 2013 Hyundai Elantra Coupe will do what it does without breaking the bank as base MSRP is a class-strong $17,445.

The Coupe will be offered in two trim levels, GS and SE, which can both be made possible with a manual or automatic transmission. Like the rest of the Elantra lineup, the two door is powered by Hyundai’s 1.8 liter “Nu” dual overhead cam inline four cylinder engine. The task of putting 148 horsepower to the ground will be done by a choice of two six speed gearboxes. The three pedal variant will be able to join the 40 mpg club as well as being $1,000 less expensive than its automatic counterpart. The slushbox Elantra Coupe GS starts at $18,445 and both GS models come with standard features such as 16 inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, satellite radio, bluetooth phone pairing with voice recognition, keyless entry, tilt and telescoping steering wheel and heated front seats.

The Coupe rides on a McPherson strut front and V-beam rear suspension layout which uses beefy 22mm stabilizer bars at both ends. Compared to the four door, the two door’s steering has been recalibrated to offer a sportier feel. Upgrading to the SE trim will cost buyers $2,300 but will earn them segment surprising features and legitimate street cred. Larger 17 inch alloys are wrapped around 215mm wide tires to work in tandem with a sport tuned suspension. Other SE features include power sunroof, leather seats, unique grille and rear spoiler. If fitted with the automatic transmission, the Elantra Coupe SE can be given the $2,350 A/T Technology Package which adds navigation on a seven inch screen, rear view camera, 360 watt stereo, automatic headlamps, dual automatic climate control and a proximity key with push button start. The most expensive 2013 Elantra Coupe will go for $23,095.
