Hyundai is one of the few global automakers, alongside Toyota and Honda, which believes that fuel cell cars have a future in the automotive world.
In order to promote the only hydrogen-powered cell sport utility vehicle currently available on the market, the South Korean company announced in April it has teamed up with the German group Linde – a supplier of industrial, process and specialty gases – to launch BeeZero, a car sharing service that offers only fuel-cell vehicles for its customers. And Hyundai has just delivered 50 units of ix35 hydrogen SUVs, so the world’s first such program could start this summer. Hyundai’s FCEVs will be available to book either online or via the dedicated smartphone app in Munich, Germany.
The automaker has currently more than 250 units of Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell on European roads in 13 countries, all deployed thanks to some funds received from the HyFIVE Project. The Hydrogen For Innovative Vehicles is an European alliance that includes 15 partners who committed to deploy 185 fuel cell electric vehicles built by major global automakers, such as BMW, Daimler, Honda, Hyundai and Toyota. According to a recent report from IHS Automotive, the global production of hydrogen-powered cars are projected to reach more than 70,000 units annually by 2027.
