Hyundai Reports Best July Sales Performance

(WBRC) - Low interests loans prompted car buyers to show some love for Hyundai's Alabama-made Sonata sedan.

Sales of the mid-sized sedan were up 6% from July of last year to July 2015, and up 12% since the beginning of the year. While production was basically flat over the same time period, the number of Sonatas produced at Hyundai plant in Montgomery jumped from 13,406 in June to 19,440 last month.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing of Alabama spokesman Robert Burns says the incentives for the Sonata and other sedans were important since many customers are attracted to small SUVs.

Sales of the compact Elantra were basically flat coming in at just under 24,000 vehicles. However, while production in Montgomery fell slightly from June to July, last month's 15,687 Elantras was up nearly 60% from just over 9,000 vehicles in July of last year.

Both vehicles helped Hyundai deliver what it is calling its best July sales performance ever, selling just over 71,000 cars and trucks.

Meanwhile the Montgomery plant produced 228,835 vehicles last month, just slightly behind last July's pace of more than 230,237.
