Hyundai August Sales Reach A New High Due To SUV Popularity

Despite what critics and analysts predicted about Hyundai’s sales performance this year, the automaker continues to make steps forward with its reported numbers. This past month, the American branch of the Korean automaker achieved its best August sales ever.

By reaching an exceptional 72,012 units sold last month, Hyundai’s SUV sales continued to show the brand’s headed in the right direction.

While a steady amount of Sonata and Elantra sales–the brand’s two biggest contenders–was expected, Hyundai August sales were marked with increased sales of the Santa Fe and Tucson, surpassing 11,200 and 6,600 respectively. On the other side of the spectrum, Veloster, Azera, and Equus sales continue to rapidly decline.

Luckily, Hyundai is planning on putting more production emphasis on SUVs and ute/trucks like the resigned Tucson and the upcoming Santa Cruz.

“As the 2016 Santa Fe, Santa Fe Sport and all-new Tucson began hitting showroom floors, strong sales continued for CUV/SUV models in the Hyundai lineup,” said Dave Zuchowski, CEO of Hyundai Motor America. “The Tucson, our compact CUV, saw sales gains of 25.5 percent and the Santa Fe and Santa Fe Sport experienced gains of 30 percent and 18 percent, respectively.”

As the automaker begins its approach toward the autumn sales season, it anticipates yet another breakthrough sales month fueled by anticipation of the Santa Cruz and redesigned Elantra.
